2010 sees the 8th annual event of the Vodashop George Cheese festival and has established itself as the premier event in George and the only event in the Southern Cape to attract in excess of 11 000 visitors to ONE venue under ONE roof.
Despite the economic recession, the 2009 festival enjoyed positive growth with 11 000 visitors and the sports events showed 100% growth.
The Vodashop George Cheese Festival has a very strong charity support system and policy, although it is run as a fundraising event by the PTA of Outeniqua Primary School. Over the last 3 years the Cheese Festival has ploughed
R160 000 back into the community.
For 2010, the organisers have chosen to host the Cheese Festival during the first weekend of the World Cup. A increase amount of overseas and South African visitors will visit the Garden Route during this time. We expect an amount of
12 000 - 15 000 visitors to attend this year and it will create a platform for many local producers to exhibit and sell their products to an international market. The organisers hope to build a legacy for visitors who wish to return to the area in years to come. |
